This was the first lecture of many to come relating to the creation of our dossiers and websites for our university course (at Bath Spa).

This lecture took place on the 28th February 2017 from 9:30am till 4:15pm, of which it was sectioned into two pieces of information.

McDonald began to talk about us finding a web design that we can look further into, it didn't have to be a photography website, it had to be something we liked the layout and the overall look of. The idea behind this was to make a record of the voice in their websites, i.e. what language do they use? What social media links do they have? If so how prominent are they, do they stand out or are they somewhere where they can see them all the time but not take over the page? Text is key to an amazing website because this is how you find out about the artists work.

You also need to think about the accessibility of the website and how simple it is to navigate around it...can someone find their way round you site with ease? If the answer is no you need to re work on it to make it more accessible for people to use.

Another thing that was mentioned is that you don't have to use just photographs in your website, you can use video? or maybe even audio over a slideshow.

She mentioned to start looking at logo ideas. This I will put in another blog post, of where I am trying to figure out what I want my logo to be.

Once we had the brief out the way of what we needed to do, McDonald got onto the subject of the gorilla effect:

The gorilla effect is having an unconventional way of getting people to remember you in industry, say for example if you went to an interview then as you left put a stencil on the ground of the entrance and poured flour of it t leave your logo behind, that is a memorable act that will get you noticed.

During the discussion we got onto the subject of Marshmallows.....yes marshmallows, this came up due to you can get photographs printed on marshmallows, imagine getting a box of marshmallows through your door with the face of someone you saw on an email they sent you a few days ago. That would make them stand out.

The whole point of the gorilla effect is to make a statement and be memorable without being illegal or too over the top. However graffitiing your logo on a wall thats gone too far, Rather than be memorable for you art you'd be memorable as the person who got arrested, and we don't want that.

So to recap, websites need a lot of thinking about and researching on to create a good site. Use the gorilla effect sometime in your life to help you with your future.
